BIO
Stephane Daoust is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter, based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. With the ultimate goal of creating music as timeless as possible, his musical path centers on melody first and production second. This has meant countless hours of writing and rewriting, like an author dedicated to his novel, before taking the material into the studio. At this point the production stage begins and he steps into the details of arranging the colors around the melody.
A few years ago, Stephane began working on a weekly basis with Trey Gunn (King Crimson, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp) as his music coach, helping him define and clarify his musical aims. With more focus and a clear goal in place, this process became a turning point in Stephane’s artistic path.
Stephane was selected as a “hot pick” on Peter Gabriel’s Real World Remixed website for his remixed version of the Gabriel song “Games Without Frontiers”. His production received a tremendous amount of listener feedback, specifically citing his production/arrangement choices and his in-your-face bass playing.
During the same year, Stephane received invaluable feedback from Kevin Killen (Peter Gabriel, U2, Tori Amos) on the production of a very personal cover version of a Bob Dylan song he recorded after his grandfather’s death.
Since 2012, as part of his creative process, Stephane has collaborated with several international musicians, producers and engineers: John Reynolds (Sinead O’Connor, Björk, U2, Peter Gabriel), Greg Gilmore (member of the critically acclaimed, seminal Seattle band Mother Love Bone), Tim Oliver (mix engineer Real world studios) and Terl Bryant (John Paul Jones).
Stephane plans to continue writing music for future recordings. For him this means more work with the musicians and producers already in his circle, in addition to reaching out to new collaborators.—
